Sole E35 Elliptical Trainer Best Review
Full disclosure, I did not buy the E35 from Amazon but instead ordered direct from Sole. Same price and they also offer free shipping. After reading the horror story from an earlier reviewer in which Sole bounced him back to Amazon when seeking to return the product I figured it would be better to deal only with the manufacturer and cut out the middle man in case there were issues.Did a lot of research before buying the Sole. Read everything we could find online and also tested available units at sporting goods stores. In the end the E35 looked to be the best value. I'm sure that others have looked at the same info we did and found that this is listed as a "best buy" on many surveys of elliptical trainers in this price range.
So far I can't think of a bad thing to say about this unit. The wife and I assembled it in 3 hours, and we were moving at a very leisurely pace. Not to mention that we had to take one section apart because we forgot to insert some rubber grommets. Plugged it in, fired it up and it hasn't hiccuped so far. It's smooth and quiet and a joy to work out on. The speakers for iPod/iPhone are a bit tinny but I wasn't expecting much. After all, this is an exercise machine, not an audiophile level stereo.
Did have a "scare" recently. About 5 minutes into a workout I started hearing an odd "clicking" noise. I couldn't really tell where it was coming from and was afraid that something was loose in the flywheel. Took a look in the manual and sure enough it mentioned that this sound may be heard if the rollers that ride the metal rails in the rear become dirty. We took a look and found the exact problem described. The hard rubber rollers can pick up dirt and grit from those rear rails. Easily scraped off with finger nail and a damp clothe. Cleaned the rails and applied some of the supplied lubricant.....noise gone. I just wish the initial assembly instructions had mentioned that you should be diligent in keeping those rear rails cleaned and lubed.
If you're reading this you've probably seen the negative "one star" reviews posted here. I'm sure those folks had issues but to date we're not in that camp. Definitely feel we got value for our money.
